About Lumbini Buddhist University

Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) is an autonomous public university established in Lumbini, Rupandehi where Gautam Buddha was born. In 2004, the university has been formally established by enacting the Lumbini Buddhist University Act, based on the vision of establishing an international institution focusing on Buddhist philosophy, literature and culture.

LBU brings together Buddhist philosophy, culture, art and literature with modern day academic fields. The university has two faculties (the Faculty of Buddhist Studies and the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences) and a School (School of Development Studies & Applied Sciences).

The university has a variety of academic programs such as Buddhist Studies, Business Administration, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Travel and Tourism Management, Law, Rural Development, Traditional Buddhist Arts, Sowa Rigpa Medicine and Surgery, and Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. It also has postgraduate and doctoral courses in targeted fields as well as post graduate diploma and certificate courses.

Lumbini Buddhist University is dedicated to incorporating Buddhist values into their educational and research programs, as well as to training students for professional and academic careers, through peace, compassion, wisdom and mindfulness. The university also facilitates cooperation in national and international level, research and preservation of Buddhist heritage and culture.
